about

We've been digging though the archives and thought we'd give this favourite from our 2009 album, Born With A Horn, a little bit of a spit and polish.

This was from our first attempt at a studio recording. It was all tracked live in a day except the BVs and the guitar solos. We were young, stupid and probably hungover and driving our ever patient engineer, Anthony Chapman, to despair. So, needless to say, it’s a little rough round the edges.

A surprisingly mature song for the time with pretentious post-modern, nihilistic wittering about how language is inherently meaningless…odd as most of the songs at the time were crude sexual innuendo and knob gags. Ah, how we’ve grown.

lyrics

Words are the playthings of the verbose,
Dragged up from your lungs and spat out of your throat,
Pregnant with meaning on cherubim wings,
Chameleon whispers and scorpion stings,
Those penitent lies, those forced convictions,
My marionettes and their innocent victims,
Carefully chosen, those Devil tongued tricks,
Drawn up and conjured, the Mechanics Of Lips.

Don’t place your faith in these terrible things,
Open-faced virtues, hide subterfuge sins,
This guttural noise and this audible hand,
Don’t carry the truth from this diaphragm,
Oh no!

Intercostal muscle has adorned,
Expands and contracts this corporal form,
Rusted and barbed, and satin and laces,
Funeral parlours and wide open spaces,
You put such faith in expulsions of air,
Paroxysm’s of joy, the depth of despair,
I’ve seen you rise, and I’ve seen you trip,
Drawn up and conjured, the Mechanics Of Lips.

The Mechanics Of Lips,
Mouth to tongue tip,
The Mechanics Of Lips,
Where wisdom does drip.

Sublime, absurd.
So breathe out a word.

about

TODGER England, UK

Roaring into the truck stop of your earhole, Todger are 4 old friends from London knocking out hard rocking, good times with a god damn silly band name. Drawing from 70s classic and southern rock and the belief that watching live music should be truckin good fun, they blend their tight grooving rhythms and slick guitar work with tongue in cheek tall tales, innuendo and belt-it-out BVs. ... more
